About Lenox

In the XIXth century, Lenox, became  known as the "Inland Newport" ,  a resort for the "rich and famous"  from New York and Boston . They covered the area with enormous, magnificent mansions, surrounded by beautiful grounds, often bordering a lake. There, they would spend the Summer, entertaining and visiting each other.  Many famous artists and writers made their home in the Berkshires; Edith Wharton's "The Mount" was recently restored and the house and grounds can now be visited.   Since 1945, the world famous TANGLEWOOD music Festival, organized in July and August every year by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is held in one of those "cottages"; the theater group "Shakespeare & Company" occupies another; Ventfort Hall, on our Walker street, has become a museum of the Gilded Age .

There are many other attractions in the area, for every taste and every Season: art centers and galleries,  Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival,  the Berkshire Theater Festival at Stockbridge,  Historic sites, the many museums (i-a the Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge, the Clark Art Institute at Williamstown), shopping (outlets , boutiques  and antiques), Ski Areas (Butternut, Jiminy Peak), "Indian Summer"  foliage, great restaurants are just a few of the many reasons to visit the Berkshires...and us!
